Reliability and validity

Reliability issues may arise from the questions being unclear or ambiguous leading them to produce inaccurate answers. Another issue could arise from instructions provided being inconsistent or unclear. These are minimized by testing the questionnaire with a small sample to ensure that the questions are well understood and issues of ambiguity with the questions or instructions are eliminated Wikman, 2006.

Validity issues could arise from incorrect interpretation of the meaning when analyzing the data. The study may measure aspects that the researcher had not intended to measure Brewer, 2000.

Validity can be ensured by comparing the data from this study to others that use similar processes or have similar aims.
