Economics and Ethics of Sustainable Design Dos Toros is a U.S. food manufacturing company. The company manufactures foods of different types from plant food to animal food. At this company, there are several deliberate measures that are employed to ensure that these kind of food produced meets the desired standards. In this case, Dos Toros managed to carve a sizeable market share by distinguishing itself. Chipotle Company, on the other hand, is a beef producing company located in Texas. This company sells meat from naturally raised cows.

The cows that they slaughter are bred under natural conditions with no adulteration of chemicals. There is no use of drugs in sustaining the lives of the animals. The kinds of food that the cows eat are those availed by nature. This is similar to Dos Toro's approach to business. As a result, both companies have earned a name for their consideration of the health of the consumers. Safe food The company sells chicken, pork, steak, and serial foodstuffs such as rice and maize.

In all their food sold, they attempt as much as possible to have it free from modification or any element of additives that are deemed harmful by doctors. For instance, they have ensured that they rear chicken and the other animals under hormone-free and antibiotic-free conditions. This way, they save the customers from the hazards that come with the consumption of the above-mentioned chemicals. Doctors have reported that consumption of animal products raised under hormone inducement or those that have an adulteration from too much antibiotic use is unhealthy.

Such are known to cause cancer and other diseases to the consumers. It is a way of creating competitive advantage to sell safe foods as Dos Toros Company is doing. Safe Packaging At Dos Toros, the packaging of foodstuffs is based on the belief of safeguarding the environment. The company has put measures in place to ensure that it has incorporated measures that conform to this. All the cups, straws, napkins and plates and other utensils are made of biodegradable material.

This is essential in promoting a green and conducive environment. It is a known fact that the biodegradable material does not pollute the soil and thus are environmentally safe (Dasmann, 2010). Safe treatment of the environment is also seen from the company's move to recycle all it packets once used. The recycling helps to reduce the solid waste material on the environment. GMO food factor Genetically modified food (GMO) refers to the food, which is produced through a laboratory process.

These foods are known to have been genetically altered to make them more desirable in terms of yield capacity; compliance to climatic conditions and making them more appealing to the consumers (Henningfeld, 2014). From a look at these crops, they are an ideal type of crops. However, there are controversies surrounding their safety as foodstuffs. Human rights activists and conservationists argue against its practice saying that foods should be left to grow naturally. At Dos Toros, some of their foods are genetically modified.

For instance, the company's corn chips are made of GMO cereals. This, however, is not surprising as 90% of the American food is made of GMO sources. The good thing is that they have ensured that there is no GMO in their cereal flours such as rice and corn tortillas. BPA component Bisphenol -- A (BPA) is a chemical component used in the manufacture of plastic. As a chemical, it has the ability of affecting the health status of the consumers.

The chemical also has other ways of finding their way into the human system besides leaking into the plastic-packed food. This is by using Napkins made of plastic that contains this chemical or through handling receipts that contain this chemical. Dos Toros Company has ensured that there is no element of this chemical present in all their napkins used as well as in the receipts they issue. They have also ensured that at no point does the packaging material contain the chemical by using non-plastic packets.

Non-plastic packaging materials are expensive to produce. Skeptics have raised questions about the sustainability of this approach to business. However, the company has no problem in meeting the extra cost of production. It does this by charging extra prices for their products. Given their good reputation and a high recommendation from environmentally friendly.
