System Analyst: Job Website Overview
When I typed in the words 'software development lifecycle' into the popular job search engine Monster.com, I expected to get a rather narrow range of technical jobs. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of offerings generated by the popular website. For example, a "full lifecycle DSP software development job" for the Allegis Group demanded someone with a BS in Electrical Engineering, or a related field along with programming experience in C/C++. The job involved developing, integrating and testing software for the Acoustic Intercept and Ranging System (AI&R) deployed aboard U.S. Navy Submarines. The salary range specified was $60,000-100,000, depending on the candidate's experience. A manager in business development of Air Force systems and requirements at BAE Systems merely had to have a BA -- but 15 years of government experience or industry experience in a related field was also required. The manager would work with BAE's government clients and oversee software life cycle phases for BAE Systems products from their conceptual development to retirement. Salary was commensurate with experience.
For Con Arga foods, an associate product lifecycle management specialist who was part of the Integrated Product Lifecycle Management Team was "responsible for the creation of, routing to, maintaining and reviewing integrated corporate specifications that include[d]: materials, formulas, equipment, quality information and process information for R&D, plants, co-packers and suppliers using established guidelines and procedures." The job required a candidate with a BS in Technical Writing, Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Microbiology or Food Chemistry and competency in Microsoft Word. Salary was commensurate with experience.
