¶ … TQM help Education?" By Chula Vista, the author argues that effective management techniques are the most effective way to prevent stress in school for both teachers and pupils. Related to this idea the author suggests that Total Quality Management is a paradigm that can be used in the school environment to alleviate teacher stress, which according to Vista will result in a more effective educational environment.
These suppositions are supported in the literature view in both abstract and concrete manners. Vista begins by using research to state that stress can cause psychosomatic illnesses, and it is these illnesses that cause teachers to be absent from school, thereby decreasing productivity. Vista supports his thesis by reviewing research that supports the fact that emotional factors can affect a teacher's performance. For the most part the literature review is appropriate to the thesis. The article contributes to stress management literature by pointing out that reality that teacher stress can be alleviated via management technique that addresses controllable factors in teachers and students lives.
Literature supports the notion that TQM approaches can have a positive impact on teacher stress. Schmoker in his work "Total Quality Education" suggests that schools do not stress achievement as a top priority; further he suggests that TQM approaches to management will assist schools in accelerating the learning process, much as Vista suggests that educators will benefit from TQM practices in order to reduce stress.
