Using Camtasia to Create an Internet Training Video on Google Trends

Of the many software applications available online for creating online videos, the one chosen for this project is Camtasia Studio. The goal of the Internet training video is to create a tutorial that can be viewed on any laptop, desktop, tablet or mobile device. As device portability is a critical requirement for this project, Camtasia was chosen as it supports exporting video files in formats that are compatible across all of these platforms and their respective operating systems. Camtasia Studio is produced by TechSmith Software, which has deep expertise in online video capture and content creation. Camtasia also has a very active user community as well, which was another key requirement of the project. The subject of the video is how to get started with Google Analytics. As Google has expanded the base of its applications, it is essential that selective screen capturing be accomplished in its production. The TechSmith community was invaluable in getting this accomplished. The topic of Google Analytics continues to grow, as evidenced by this analysis of the term from Google Trends.

Lessons Learned In Creating A Training Video With Camtasia

Installing Camtasia took less than five minutes on a relatively new Dell Inspiron laptop with 4GB of RAM and an Intel dual-core processor. TechSmith uses an installation script that streamlines the process and also checks for previous versions of prerequisite software which alleviate the potential for device driver conflicts later in the use of the application. TechSmith has created a studio-like interface for managing each video component recorded, including options for overdubbing voice and sound effects. This gives the video producers an exceptional level of control over the entire video creation and production process. In working on this project, several other freeware applications where also evaluated yet Camtasia's director-level interface was by far the most easily used.
