Human Resources -- Technology and in-House Pay Administration The selection of a provider for in-house wage/salary and benefits administration is difficult but necessary for modern business. After comparing Oracle and ADP, one can rightfully conclude that both providers are quite capable of providing effective software solutions for our company. However, ADP appears more user-friendly for a midsize business trying to efficiently perform these tasks in-house with its administrative staff.

Keeping wage/salary and benefits administration in-house In order to adequately compare software for wage/salary and benefits administration, it is necessary to define the business of my company, the potential user requirements, information requirements, and technology requirements (Kugel, 2010). The modern business software world is rife with providers. After review of available software, ADP (ADP, Inc., 2014) and Oracle (Oracle, 2014) were compared. Upon review, ADP was chosen over Oracle.

Since the subject company has 200 employees, it is deemed definitely "midsized" by ADP (ADP, Inc., 2014) and probably midsized by Oracle (Oracle, 2014), both of which make provisions for midsized companies. Furthermore, both providers mention their abilities to assist in wage/salary and benefits administration software products (ADP, Inc., 2014; Oracle, 20140. In addition, both providers discuss "legacy" systems that can be integrated with existing business systems (Mattel, 2000).

Finally, neither company gave an exact figure on the costs of software or associated hardward, so that aspect would take further consultations with customer support/sales staffs from both companies. However, ADP appears more amenable to the company's situation.

Oracle, which is admittedly a powerhouse in the business, offers "Oracle Accelerate ERP Solutions" for midsize companies (Oracle, 2014); however, ADP specifically addresses freeing up administrative staff from several processes and allowing them to use ADP Workforce Now® for payroll and management of human capital, ADP TotalSource® for professional employment organizations and ADP SmartComplianceSM for tax and payment solutions in-house (ADP, Inc., 2014).

Furthermore, ADP seems to welcome more discussion about our company's particular needs in order to tailor the product and has a more comfortable "feel" about dealing with administrative personnel who are not sophisticated about IT solutions (ADP, Inc., 2014). Oracle seems hugely, confusingly complex and more intent on pigeon-holing our company into one of its enormous, confusing set of software products and making our company fit Oracle's enormous system rather than making Oracle's product adequately fit our company (Oracle, 2014).

Consequently, though both providers would probably provide adequate software, ADP appears more midsize-company friendly than does Oracle. 3. Conclusion Reviewing possible software solutions for our company, it is clear that ADP and Oracle could both handle the needs of a midsize company, though their pricing is unavailable without further consultation. Both companies are long-established in the industry and offer a suite of products aimed at common business solutions such as in-house wage/salary and benefits administration, including legacy software that can be incorporated into existing business systems.

However, comparison leads to the selection of ADP. Oracle's presentation seems huge, complex and confusing, whereas ADP appears more straightforward and amenable to tailoring a software solution to our 200-employee.
