Because we do not have time or resources for a full investigative report, I simply want to offer our readers a snapshot of what is going on both at the Pondicherry landfill and also in other landfills throughout the country. However, this issue of toxic fumes emitted from the overly filled garbage dump is a serious one. As Kapur points out, there are "strong differences of opinion in the United States" over how to deal with long-term solutions to large-scale waste issues. Covering the story in India will allow our newspaper to conduct research on what India might be doing to alleviate their problems and possibly uncover reason for a future series on this topic.
