It is presented as an old dream, which is as old as the Constitution of the United States of America. According to the text, those who framed the American dream were engaged the country in a state where everyone will gain the good as from working hard. Through working hard, people will be able to make it possible to attain different levels of their fulfillments. Nonetheless, today many things have changed with the changes in time (Hemingway, 2013). With the aspects of capitalism and materialism taking root in every society, the dream has been distorted. The possible supports for a statement that many of the people live within their required states of living because they have worked hard are not provided. Support for the existence of materialism and capitalism is not provided. However, it is evident that a small section of the society benefits from the larger working hard section to derive selfish satisfaction and pleasure.
As seen from the characters in the play, it is certain that the human pursuit of money has become the occurrence of happiness and the nature of working hard among the people. People are seeking to achieve the America dream through ways that are termed as working hard but are against the precepts that are within the constituted way of making money. Moreover, many situations have seen people live the dream without seeing the moments of fulfillment. For instance, many people appear to work hard but are not able to attain the fulfillment that comes with the hard work they have invested. In such cases, the characters have resorted to forget about the present but live in the past, a life of belief but with little to show from within the hard work and the determination that has been invested. It is just worth to live the past and think about the future in all circumstances. In short, people become disillusioned. This is how the American Dream is false, distorted, and unfulfilled (Hemingway, 2013).
