¶ … Internet has Resulted in a Generation of Lazy Young People

There is no doubt that everything is moving much more quickly these days. Technology and the internet have definitely made our lives easier, evolving to meet almost every need that requires fulfillment, and accommodating a more convenient way of life. Our lives are increasingly becoming more and more effortless. In fact, with the right gadgets and apps, you can work, study, conduct business, and stay in touch with friends and family without having to get off your couch. Why walk all the way to the library when you can obtain answers on just about any question from Google and Wikipedia? Why have your friends over to disturb the peace when you can hold a quick video chat on Skype or Facetime? Why go through all the trouble of getting up from bed one Saturday morning to check whether the weather is ideal for some outdoor activities when you can check the weather directly from your device? This Millennial generation, as Rampell (WK3) points out, is a generation of slackers -- one not only less virtuous, but also less industrious when compared to those before it.

Back in the day, you had to make physical trips to the Rasputin Store to obtain a copy of your favorite musician's new album, or drive to the video store to rent a popular selection (The Next Web). Well, the internet came and changed all this. Today, right from the comfort of my apartment, I can check out my favorite playlists on Spotify, or the best tunes on iTunes, and have them synced or downloaded directly to my Smartphone; and then I can sit, relax, tweet out the events to hundreds of followers, and amaze myself with the wide array of replies.

Even more worrying, one no longer has to wash their dishes, do their laundry, prepare their food, or engage in any other chores they consider boring. Apps such as GetFriday, TimeSVR, AskSunday, and TaskRabbit provide services that link users with pre-approved, background-checked individuals willing to accommodate their errands at a fee (The Next Web). One can now easily and conveniently delegate those chores they find no pleasure in to other people; and then they can sit back and engage in more interesting activities - say watching TV, reading a novel, or perhaps sourcing for more apps online.

On another note, platforms such as Twitter and Quora have literally eliminated the need to carry out field research (The Next Web). Why spend a whole day physically distributing questionnaires when you can make a posting on Twitter and obtain responses from a wide range of participants; and then gather and poll the same without having to leave your apartment?

A few years back, one had to physically visit their favorite restaurant or food joint to pick up their food. Now, this is not the way 'Millennials' operate -- thanks to such apps as Foodler, Seamless Web, and Groundtub, all one has to do is pop into the service, sort through the list of restaurants subscribed to the same, make categories on the basis of price and food type, and make the order to have food delivered at the doorstep without having to leave the apartment (The Next Web). One could call it convenience, but then they need not question why obesity is becoming so serious a concern the world over.
