Personal vision and mission through servant leadership philosophy

Vision Statement

Guidance is something most people lack. It is extremely difficult to know what choices to make and people often fail at making the right choice. However, my personal vision statement is aimed at using faith to develop a proper direction in life and motivating others by example. My leadership style is that of the servant leader.

I believe people only do what is right when they see and experience it themselves. By using what I have learned and letting faith guide me, I can make the decisions needed to create a positive impact to those the follow me or people within my community. Good leaders are not those that look the part of a good leader. They are the ones that do what is necessary even when depleted and perform to the best of their ability.

I believe a strong foundation in faith allows me to draw out the energy I need to perform the daily tasks that are required to grow and progress. Discipline and self-motivation does not come from wishing, rather, I believe it comes from doing. When I know, my faith is there to ground me, it provides me a great comfort because I know I am okay. Showing people what they can accomplish by accomplishing goals myself and educating them on the process can open the door for new possibilities.

In the end, the servant leader wants his or her followers to grow and develop as people (Blanchard & Hodges, 2003). My philosophy is centered on empowerment. I want to demonstrate to others that major goals are possible. However, to show that, I must be willing to apply practicality and implementation and serve as the means from which others can see how it is done. This to me is a servant first, not leader first. The needs and health of the people are key in the servant leadership style and promotes a kind of attitude that moves towards consistent progress and development.

Mission Statement

My vision statement involves using faith to guide me to help others as a servant leader. A major part of that is leading by example. Jesus Christ is a perfect model of the servant leader. He set out to help others and lead by example. His personal sacrifice led to the salvation of all Christians through the removal of Original Sin (Renan, 2012). If asked what my purpose in life is, it is to show the world how to be more in tune with themselves and to become the best version of themselves they can be by becoming the best version of my, self.

What does that best version entail? Going back to Jesus Christ and His life, He began His ministry in his thirties. First, He was baptized by John the Baptist and then began to preach and perform miracles. He did not set out to gain wealth and prestige. He went out to serve others and in doing so, becoming the best version of Himself.

Jesus Christ taught me that life is not about pursuit of material possessions and physical perfection. Instead, life is about faith and using that faith to make the right decisions in life. These decisions mean making a life that allows for growth and development for not just the self, but for those within the community and personal spheres. It all begins with the first step towards self-motivation and parlaying that motivation to helping others.

Why help others? Part of my purpose in life is to understand what a \'life well lived\' is. As I have aged and progressed, I have learned that living a good life is making sure the people near me are okay. So many out there are suffering because they feel alone, as though no one understand them. While I believe is not my purpose to help everyone, it is my purpose to help those around me because that is part of self-actualization. By helping others, I help myself.

This goes into what really counts. People are interconnected to the world, to animals, and to each other. When little is done to provide for these three things, there is often a disconnect. Jesus Christ during his time helping others established a basis from which all should aspire to accomplish. He went out without much guidance from the world, to make a positive difference in society. He did so not for accolades or for wealth, but because His faith enabled him to believe in a higher purpose.

He went to different areas to not just discuss God, but to show the people He encountered that there is more out there. There is a life worth living that does not revolve around the physical plane of existence. He created through his journey, bonds with those he saved and those he preached to, allowing Him to gain followers (Renan, 2012). These followers, the Twelve Apostles, did not know how to be in the world. Many of them were lost. However, when Jesus met them, they began to see what life would be like with faith in their lives and meaning.

Life does not mean much when people are isolated. When people obsess over mundane things like making more money or being more attractive, it takes away what the core significance of life is. Life is so much more than existing for the self. When I opened my eyes to the beauty of my faith, I saw that life is a great design meant to enable deeper connection to all.

Another example of faith and connection is Noah and the Ark. Many that judged his actions saw a dreamer who was not aware of how people viewed him (Gerstein, 1999). However, Noah saw himself as a man of God that knew what he had to do to save his family and protect the animals of earth. By him continuing and having faith in his purpose, he was able to avoid dying in the flood and allowing humanity to start anew (Gerstein, 1999).

As a servant leader, I want to accomplish incorporation of faith and balance in society. I want to show others that faith can be used as a means of personal growth and development. It can help guide when individuals feel there is no available guidance. The Bible has many instances of servant leadership as seen through Moses, Abraham, and Christ.

Christ was the Shepherd of Israel and set out to provide lost souls with the kind of faith and love that they never experienced before. \"He says that those who drink from him can themselves have \'rivers of living water\' flowing from their hearts. The Evangelist interprets this to refer to Jesus giving the Spirit to believers, who then share spiritual waters of life with others (John 7:37-39)\" (Young, 1999, p. 69). Because so many people lack meaning in their lives, they tend to feel lost and partake in self-destructive behaviors. My mission is to help curb such destructive forces and enable growth and development in others.

However, this is not simply done with words, rather, it is followed through with actions. By accomplishing my own goals, I can learn what it takes to follow through and become a better person. Then I can teach guide others to achieve their goals and empower themselves to become more than what they originally believed.

Hence, servant leadership enables believers to achieve key elements of their general and specific calling and life purpose, a means to promote the Great Commandment and Commission experiencing Christ\'s redemption. Servant leadership is not only for those with official leadership titles, but a general calling for all Christians in all life domains (Roberts, 2016, p. 2).
