Personal Statement

Thank you for your consideration of my objective to transfer from the University of Toronto to Johns Hopkins University -- specifically to the Johns Hopkins' University Political Science program, where I seek to participate in the program's Model United Nations Conference -- in time for the 2016 fall semester.

Presently I am the Chair of the General Assembly at the North American Model United Nations Conference at the University of Toronto. Because of my academic skills and accomplishments at a very young age, I was admitted to the University of Toronto in my sixteenth year.

Meanwhile, my strong, well-thought-out desire to transfer is because of the wonderful opportunity for me to gain insights and deep understanding while participating in the highly respected Johns Hopkins University Model United Nations Conference.

This opening will dovetail with my career dream: to mature intellectually and professionally in ways sufficient to become a diplomat in the United Nations.

As long as I can remember I have greatly admired and been captivated by the incredibly important work being done by the United Nations. The diversity of challenges that face the United Nations -- and the professional way in which UN teams carry out their duties and responsibilities -- is vital and impressive in a way that very few organizations can match.

The United Nations has the august duty to the world's peoples and communities to enforce international laws, to assist in matters of security, to help struggling third world nations with their economic development and social progress and to ensure human rights wherever injustices are known to exist.

Hence, I have worked hard in my second year at the University of Toronto -- with a double major, Political Science and Human Geography -- with my long-range lens focused on a career with the United Nations. I have a powerful desire to make a difference in this world, which seems to be in a constant state of tension and turmoil, and where under-nourished children and their parents live in over-crowded African refugee camps while civil wars explode around them.

The Johns Hopkins University Model United Nations Conference (JHUMUNC) offers thirty "high-caliber committees," according to the informational page on the university's website. I am eager to take part as a delegate in one or more of those committees, and gain knowledge by attending sessions where distinguished members of the international relations community make presentations.
