Millions and billions of people who survive in this world are segregated into diverse cultures and civilizations with different sets of norms and values for living. Amongst these culturally diverse people, numerous social issues exist. However, few of these social issues have emerged on a global platform, where scores of nations are confronting these issues on a mutual basis. One of the social dilemmas that have grabbed the public attention in the current times is teen pregnancy (Feinstein, 2009).

The social issue of teen pregnancy in the past few decades has become one of the escalating and serious social issues in many parts of the world, and United States is one of those nations. However, today, numerous options are available for the people of all ages (teens as well as adults) that can help them prevent the birth control or pregnancy. Condoms are one of the effective, popular and perhaps the oldest forms of contraception that helps in birth control (Feinstein, 2009).

In this regard, the question has been raised that whether condoms prevent teen pregnancy or not, and has also been a hot topic of discussion, arguments and quarrels. This issue has provided controversial and different opinions and perspectives by the experts and common people. According to some schools of thoughts condom is not an effective technique for preventing teen pregnancy and have provided various arguments to prove their perspectives (Feinstein, 2009).

From the opponents' perspective, condoms create a misleading statement that it provides complete protection, when the truth is it does not provide hundred percent protections. In addition, they also believe that condoms are creating wrong and deceptive idea related to intercourse and sex amongst the youth of today. Besides, many of the people also consider that condoms are immensely overvalued for the aspect of protection and prevention birth control. The opponents also feel that due to the inexperienced and immature attitudes and self-centered behavior of the teens in the current era, unwanted pregnancies are likely to occur. Moreover, this attitude has also made many young adults consider that preventative measures for sex is not essential (Feinstein, 2009).

While looking at the other end of the spectrum, I am on the proponents' view who strongly believes that condoms are one of the useful and effectual methods to prevent pregnancy amongst the teens and have multiple positive characteristics. Indeed, it has come to notice that plentiful of people of all ages share similar views that condom is an effectual method that helps the teens and adults in preventing unwanted pregnancy (Campbell & Orr, 2011).

When the teenagers are in the heat of the moment, they don't realize what is happening as they just go with the flow, which are strongly driven by their hormones. This is where condoms play a great and effective role if the teenagers make use of condoms; they make themselves protected from the unplanned and undesired pregnancies (Campbell & Orr, 2011).

I firmly believe that condom is a vital and imperative step for the teens in their sexual relationships because it protects the sexually active youngsters from having undesired pregnancies. Even though, the opponents claim that access to condoms also promote and persuade the youth to get involved in sexual activities, yet, the access is an essential element that cannot be ignored as birth prevention contraceptive (Feinstein, 2009).

Sexual relationships in a young age has become an attribute of the teenage culture that is presided over their distinct rules, customs and norm and are quite different from the teachings of their parents. This signifies that the young people of the generation are inclined towards the exploration of the things they find it cool. In this regard, sex is one of the pretty normal stuff that they want to do. However, the teens who are not aware of the contraceptives and birth control measures such as condoms are more expected to get into unwanted pregnancies. Therefore, the access and awareness to condoms would aid them in preventing the undesired pregnancy (Campbell & Orr, 2011).

At many instances, it has been observed that many of the teenagers are afraid to buy the condoms just because someone from their contacts might see them purchasing. It has even been analyzed that young people feel embarrassed when they opt to purchase the condoms. Indeed, cost is also one of the factors that prevent the teens from buying it and having sex without any protection. All these aspects direct towards the factor that without the accessing condoms the chances would definitely increase for unwanted pregnancy amongst the teens. This proves the effectiveness of condoms in preventing the unwanted pregnancies (Feinstein, 2009).

Taking into account, the aspect of condoms in prevention of teen pregnancies, many institutions and organizations have carried out numerous researches and surveys that can determine the success rate of condoms in prevention of unwanted pregnancy. According to a survey of teens (from 15 years to 17 years in age) that was conducted in the beginning of the twenty first century by The Kaiser Family Foundation and Seventeen magazines, more than fifty percent of the teens had acknowledged that they had used condoms for having an intercourse that could prevent them from pregnancy. Amongst the survey participants the teens that has an intercourse made up over twenty five percent (Teen Help, 2012).

From a similar survey that was carried out in the state of Massachusetts in the middle years of decade of 2000, the results proved that the number of young people is increasing who are using condoms as a preventive measure. In addition, the results also exhibited that more than sixty percent of the teen's population use condoms when they have sex (presented in the below diagram). The reason is again the same that is to prevent the undesired pregnancies. In fact, this study also indicates that the state on timely basis conduct health and safety related surveys within the high schools in order to create more awareness about the effectiveness of condoms (Teen Help, 2012). These kinds of studies and surveys have been conducted on various occasions from time to time and practically it has been verified from most cases that by having access and using condoms, the rate of teen pregnancy has dropped.
