TCL Multimedia

Synopsis of the Situation

One needs to provide a synopsis of the case for others to understand it better. TCL Multimedia. This particularly company was founded in 1982. They originally were a manufacture of audiotapes. By 2005, Li Dongsheng was able to get the company into a number of electronic product lines. During the 1980s, they distributed handsets for their telephones, which provided them a good reputation for their quality. When the 1990s arrive, TCL had sold under Tongli their audio equipment as well as made a joint venture with a Hong Kong firm. Furthermore, the company made a research and development department in 1992 by striving to focus on product development; concurrently, they also made a distribution system that was national along with product efficiencies. The main interest of the distributor was to discuss turnover and cash, but failed to do anything in regards to product promotion. Additionally, they failed to actually tell them how well the products were doing; this also included not paying attention to retail sales. Because of this issue, their distributors backed out of the deal of working with TCL. Not only that, but by the time 1993-1994 arrived, they managed to have their first marketing efforts in place. In 1992, they were able to start selling televisions.

The success factors are important with this particular scenario. They were able to anticipate changes within their industry. Their structure did manage to allow them to have innovative learning. TCL also had a strong sales network. For example, as soon as 1997, they were able to utilize the Internet to have this kind of success. Furthermore, management managed to have their sales department in 27 companies that were provincial-level as well as oversaw the 167 sales offices in major cities. They had their own profit and loss with at least 20,000 outlets domestically. At least 2/3 of their executives that was active in 2004 when through the organization doing sales upon getting promoted within the company.

Key Issues

The key issues for TCL are worth mentioning. These include that of their technological capabilities as well as their limited scales that go with it. Another is that of their higher liabilities-to-assets ratio in comparison to their peers. Furthermore, not enough experience is present with employees who have international experience. Define the Problem

A key problem that is worth addressing is in regards to international business with TCL. They failed to international strategies that were too aggressive enough to handle Chinese firms. They used Changhong and Konka were trading partners in order to enter the Russian market. For instance, they did not work with them by means of ensuring that the trading companies did understand as well as promote the Chinese brand. At least 50% of TCLS's sales in Russia were under their own brand, and the other half were sold by means of OEM. Alternative Solutions

A number of alternatives are worth considering when it comes to TCL. The first is that the company needed to become culturally sensitive to China on how they do business over there. They would have become more receptive to what it is that TCL would offer them by means of making sure that both businesses will prosper through this entire process. In fact, since they have done a successful joint venture in Honk Kong, they should consider the successes from this particular scenario and utilize it when doing business in other parts of China. Not only that, but the company would know how to handle issues better in Russia and other parts of the world for them to expand in their marketplace more efficiently.

Many pros and cons are important. The positive aspects of it include that of making sure that they understand the cultures in the world before entering them. This means that they ask questions in order to grasp how one lives in that part of the world. However, negatively, certain parts of the world may become offensive, if they fail to fully understand their culture in an efficient manner. Those in business may not want to do business with them because of not actually taking the time to get to them know them through relationship-building. Another is that people may ask them to never come back again for business. They would walk away disappointed because of it.

The other option is to make sure that they have strategies in place before going to any country in the future. This means that they will strive their hardest to have a plan, but to do not come across too aggressive through this entire process. In essence, they are making it difficult for the people of that country to want to get along with them when behaving in this manner, which is considered quite unprofessional.

The benefits and drawbacks are important with this matter. They are able to become better at making sure that professionalism is of major importance when preparing a strategic plan with prospective employees. Through this effort, the various companies will respect them because of how each person is treating one another through the negotiation process. Regardless, each person is doing their job properly to make revenue in order that they make a difference in the world around them. However, a downfall that could occur is that arguments could arise but worse because of the cultural differences that are present at that time. These are all of the different possibilities that could occur when going this route. Not everyone will feel satisfied because of the compromises that are made because of it.

The last alternative is for the company to not go overseas. This means that they stay domestic and compete in this fashion. Their alternatives are to do this or to risk not having any revenue coming in on a regular basis. TCL will have income coming in, but this is at the possibility that negations and cultural sensitivity do not work; consequently, when in another country for them seeking to do business in order to expand theirs through this process.

The positive and negative are crucial. They are able to raise the necessary funds and to keep their organization strictly domestic. This will bring in revenue and much internal growth to have a means in which to various branches of their firm as well as to make sure that their customer needs are met in the United States. However, pessimistically, they are not able to grow overseas due to a lack of skills from those who are employees on staff at the company. This could hinder them in becoming successful and competitive to their counterparts, and this may make them lose funds because of it. Selected Solution to the Problem

The best alternative to the solution is to make sure that their employees are culturally sensitive. Expected Results and Rationale for the Solution

Here are many results and recommendations that are worth discussing. The results are important. Each employee will have job satisfaction because of the efforts needed to do their job better in order to bring in as much revenue as possible. Management will have the necessary skills needed to appear more sensitive than they were in the beginning when trying to do international business. Their confidence will continue to grow as they hone their skills and abilities due to striving to make a difference in each customer's life in any location around the globe.
