¶ … money or achieve some sort of celebrity or fame, and then there are people who work because they want to make a difference in the world. Teachers and educators make very little money, particularly in comparison to other fields where people work fewer hours for larger sums. A teacher works not just within the confines of his or her classroom, but also when they are on their so-called personal time. Real teachers are always considering how they can modify their lessons to reach their students. They are always learning so that they can inform others. To be able to teach someone something is the greatest ambition a person can aspire to and this is what I hope to do with my life. The Global Studies program would give me the necessary tools to better understand the larger world beyond this country's borders and how best to serve my fellow man.
The world is becoming more and more connected due to the improvement of technologies which allow for global communication, and increased international business. Only a century ago, people marveled at being able to communicate with someone a few miles away via the telephone and now people can communicate around the globe through their phones, computers, and tablets. Instead of focusing on a single country and the population within one nation, people are rightly thinking about all human beings and what needs to be done in order to increase the quality of life for all people. One of the reasons for this is that things which had once been national problems are expanding to global crises. An earthquake that hits Japan has a direct impact on the economics of other countries. Human rights violations that occur in the Middle East or North Korea are no longer ignored, but rather are reported on and evaluated by international bodies unwilling to turn a blind eye. Every country is connected to every other and the world has finally become aware of this.
My ultimate ambition is to use my education and experience learned through the education abroad program is to perform a service to others. There are several ways that a teacher can help other underprivileged people throughout the world. One of the ways that a teacher can assist others is in teaching them the English language. As English is now considered to be the language of international business, one of the greatest advantages that can be given to children or adults in developing countries is to teach them to speak the language. This increases their individual potential greatly as they can now either take part in international business or educate other people in their lands about how to speak English. If one person is taught and they, in turn, teach the language to a single other individual, then that knowledge will spread exponentially. Ideally, I would use my experience with the education abroad program to teach English in other countries.
