These are two types of essays that are written and are original work. The first is a descriptive narrative that puts all the tenets of descriptive writing into use and draws out the kitchen for the reader to be able to visualize. The second is a creative narrative essay that takes the reader through a journey to Africa, the mishaps that happened there and the solution to the problems.
¶ … Kitchen
Though it is a kitchen in an apartment that I share with my brothers, it presents more than the standard apartments would offer in terms of kitchens. The floor dimensions are approximately 12 feet by 12 feet, wit orange walls and one wide window that allows in sufficient light during the day.
The appliances that are in the kitchen also stand out. There is a brushed stainless steel kitchen sink that is embedded into a well curved out granite worktop, completed with a dual temperature faucet hanging approximately 10 inches from the sink. Underneath the sink is a waste disposal unit that helps in the safe disposal of solid waste after they have been ground by the machine. To the left of the sink is a dish washer seated a few inches lower that the kitchen sink.
Two feet to the right of the kitchen sink is an in built, French door (double door) refrigerator. The refrigerator has a cold water dispenser as well as an ice maker strategically place. The refrigerator stands five feet high and four feet wide. The panel is wooden and the doors are meticulously brushed steel probably to match the sink finish as well.
Joint with the refrigerator cabin is a continuous cooking worktop that extends to the corner, then to the right after the corner to a length of about six feet. On the work top is right next to the refrigerator is a coffee maker, a toaster and a kettle. Underneath is a wine refrigerator. From this point to the corner and two feet after the corner is a free workspace that one can comfortably carry out any preparations while cooking. Thereon is a 36 inch five burner gas cooker. Hanging right on top of it is a brushed stainless steel hood extractor that vents to the outside.
Next to the burner is a 30 inch convection oven with temperature probe hoisted on a utensils cabinet. On top of the oven is a 28 inch microwave both of which have a brushed stainless steel finish.
On entering the kitchen, one can easily overlook the finer details that are embedded therein yet a keen eye will detect the outstanding tools that are in the kitchen, and even one who is not so keen or doesn't have the eye of a chef will finally come into contact with these tools. There is a cuisine-art food processor for use, for bakers there is a Braun 450W stick blender for any mixing of dough that may come up, this is accompanied by a large selection of baking trays. There is also a large enough chopping board on accessories shelf.
There is a kitchen knife stand with a full set of sharp knives with steel blades and wooden handles. On the shelf is an electric mixer and a large selection of wood-colored Pyrex mixing bowls ready for any cooking preparations.
The coffee lovers are not left behind either since there is a Breville conical burr coffee grinder that can make several cups within an hour. To complete the cookery picture are heavy gauge stainless pots and pans as well as the high quality non-stick pans that are meant for varying uses.
At the exit of the kitchen to the left is the corridor leading to the laundry room and to the right is the corridor leading to the kitchen balcony.
Narrative Essay
The flight from Arizona to Nairobi via the UK is nothing to talk about since everyone knows the boring normalcy of the plane flight. The regular announcements, flight take off, the easing of atmosphere with people loosening their safety belts after takeoff. Trolleys drooling by dishing out normal goodies and the regular trips to the gents even though one may not have any business there.
I stepped out of the plane with a lot of zeal and thought the first thing I would see upon driving out of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi would be some lion chasing a prey for breakfast or groups of gazelles cautiously grazing. Well, I was disappointed since we were driven straight to our hotel room within the Nairobi city centre at Hilton Nairobi to take the day off. This was December 2007, the election month in the country and the news on the television for the better part of the day was on the pending general elections that were already underway. This was the perfect time since I would be witnessing a regime transition from one era to another, nothing could be more historical.
