- Specific Purpose: The paper is to determine the causes of these challenges in relation to parenting, societal changes, and vices in the society.

Central Idea: The main idea is underlying this paper is to assess issues young adults face in modern society.

There are several challenges facing young adults in the modern society because of the evolving time frame and many changes taking place in the society. These challenges have affected nearly every facet of the society including the economic structure and parenting responsibilities. The societal changes are attributed to the shift in priorities since individuals are usually seeking for ways of improving their lifestyles. The first challenge facing young adults today is finances because of the changing economic structures. Secondly, young adults are usually faced with the challenge of ineffective parenting. Third, young adults are confronted with the temptation to succumb to the ever-increasing vices in today's society.

As previously mentioned, finances is one of the major challenges facing young adults today because of the changing economic structure. This challenge is attributed to the different economic times that these people face as compared to those of their parents ("Young Adults Face a Rough Road Ahead," 2011). As a result of this economic structure, young adults have experienced increase in debt levels as evident in the increase in credit card bills, student debt, and medical bills. The challenging economic conditions have contributed to numerous hardships to young adults that in turn result in difficulties to assume responsibilities and carry out important activities for their future lives.

The second biggest challenge that young adults confront today is the widespread problem of ineffective parenting. According to the findings of a study, family breakdown and lack of adequate parenting has been named as one of the most pressing issues confronting today's generation (Demee-Benoit, 2007). Ineffective parenting or family breakdown has been cited as a major challenge facing young adults across all races and ethnic groups. The issue of ineffective parenting is not only attributed to the increase in single-parent households but also caused by increased absenteeism of parents during upbringing of their children. Therefore, young adults are usually forced to spend more time alone and look for a parent figure elsewhere. The increase in single-parent households is caused by increase in divorce rates whereas absenteeism is caused by challenges parents face in balancing work, home, and/or school.

The third biggest challenge for today's young adults is the temptation to succumb to the numerous vices in the society. The modern society has developed into a den of vices because of radical changes such as technological advancements. While young adults are usually confronted with the need to survive, the ever-increasing vices provide a temptation to develop negative behaviors. An example of societal vices that these people face is increased cases of bullying that necessitates the need to develop a defense mechanism. Furthermore, young adults are usually exposed to incidents of violence, murder, and shootings in the society. As a result of this exposure, young adults are increasingly susceptible to societal vices to an extent they learn some negative behaviors such as drug and/or alcohol abuse.
