Throughout the course of history, fashion has been used as a form of expression and to define social customs / traditions. In some cases, this is occurring with it serving as a symbol of the larger ideas that are most important to specific ethnic groups, religions, nationalities and gender. The result is that numerous concepts will be interpreted differently, depending upon the perspectives that are taken. To fully understand what is occurring requires focusing on contemporary styles in France in conjunction with the most popular trends. This will be accomplished by looking at the period, designers, unique styles and its contributions to culture. Fashion in France

In France, everyone is free to determine their own fate. During this process, is when they will give up a certain amount of freedom. This is because they are a part of society, who is following different laws, in maintaining some kind of social order. At the heart of this structure, is a basic social contract. This involves the general population and its views on freewill. While at the same time, the government is responsible for safeguarding them and these basic rights.

During times when the government pushes to far, society has an obligation to exercise their power and replace it with something better. These ideas are showing how self-determination will have an impact if the people are willing to make drastic changes to the form of government they live under. The artists from this period are embracing these attributes in order to change attitudes, status quo and question its legitimacy.

This changed society's values with these ideals becoming a reflection of the liberal attitudes embraced in France. These shifts became more pronounced during the 20 years, with many people abandoning the aristocracy in favor of self-determination. The result is that these views became a part of French society with subsequent leaders following them.

There were several different designers which had an influence on culture. The most notable include: Pierre Cardin, Maud Frizon and Sophie Albou. Pierre Cardin focused on using bright colors, blends, limited embroidery and limiting cufflinks on shirts. He is mainly focused on introducing a simplistic. Yet, elegant fashion style with clothing that is lose fitting and customized the individual body type. This is embracing contemporary social ideals by demonstrating the need for simplicity over everything else. (North, 1998) (Lazzari, 2011)

Maud Frizon is adding to these outfits by creating designers shoes. These are using different colors, styles and designs to connect with women. The basic idea is to create a unique personality for each pair. This enables women to wear certain designs at specific events and make some kind subtle statement. In this case, Frizon is challenging the status quo by introducing numerous styles. However, it is also underscoring a more liberal attitude inside the country. (North, 1998) (Lazzari, 2011)
