Training M2
What are the basic differences between 'education' and 'training'? While the objective of education is to gain knowledge from books and tapes or various other methods, wherein the learner learns the facts about a wide range of topics, and he is tested at the end of each learning session to analyze the amount of knowledge that has been amassed by him, the objective of a training session is to literally 'gain a skill', wherein the skill may be anything from home improvement to management skills or first aid, and so on. The verification of whether the skill has been actually and appropriately learnt by the person undergoing the training is by giving the person a real opportunity in the real world to demonstrate his learned skill for which he has been trained. Therefore, it can be said that while education involves assimilating facts and knowledge, training involves the acquiring of certain skills be the learner. What are the various objectives of the OSHA training course? The primary objective is to make the trainee comprehend the various training regulations that exist in relation to the handling of hazardous materials and responses to the handling of these substances. Another objective would be to enable the trainee to be able to demonstrate the knowledge that he had gained about the various hazardous substances that he was handling at the present time, and also reveal his knowledge about the safety risks and the dangers that are generally associated with the substances. The trainee would also be required to demonstrate his knowledge about the different routes through which the hazardous substances that he is handling would be able to enter the human body, and the ways and means in which to prevent this from happening. Another important objective of this safety course would be for the trainee to comprehend the various terms that are used to describe the hazardous materials, like for example, 'vapor density', specific gravity', 'combustible', non-combustible', 'inflammable', 'ignition levels' and so on. The trainee would thereafter be able to demonstrate his knowledge of the various 'primary identification systems' that may be the Department of Transportation System, the National Fire Protection Association, and the Hazardous Materials Information System and so on. When this is accomplished the trainee would be able to identify the safety measures that he as an individual must now undertake for the overall safety of the plant, and also be able to understand the need for the usage of his own protective equipment and gear when he is in the process of handling the hazardous substances within the course of his duties.
