A look at transportation technology would not be complete without a glimpse at some of the failures, such as blimps, poor aircraft designs, and some early automobiles. The Stanley Steamer, for instance, seemed like a sound innovation, but it simply could not compete with the internal combustion engine. The blimp is still used, but more for observation and advertising, rather than transportation for large groups. All of these failures in technology helped lead innovators to other solutions and ideas, and so, they may not have truly been failures at all.

Finally, a look at technology and transportation should look to the future, as well. Will supersonic flight ever really exist for a majority of people? What will cars of the future look like? Will we ever break our dependence on fossil fuels and create alternative forms of

Transportation helped influence other innovations, as well, from the family summer vacation, to the communications industry (car radios, drive-in's and media players, for example). Americans do just about everything in their cars, and so, they are an important part of society, rather than just a box with four wheels. Therefore, a look at transportation should also discuss the lifestyle and technology changes that have evolved as a result of transportation innovations, such as airports, freeways, ports, space centers, and even global warming and vehicle emissions. The technology of transportation seems endless, and so do the topics for research and discussion.

' This trend towards smallness is not necessarily irreversible. Once upon a time, technology enabled things to get 'bigger.' The Industrial Revolution drove the creation of the major urban industrial complexes of the world. Public transportation like railroads was a way to move people faster than horses and buggies. Even the recent infatuation with SUVs could be seen as part of the age-old trend of 'bigger as better.' "Mary Czerwinski, a

Advancements in medical research and technologies usually do not reach the world's most far-flung places, let alone those with poor economic development and no infrastructure. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, bereft from most of the amenities that might be available even in its neighboring Caribbean islands. As a result, Haitians do not have access to the quality of care many others can afford. What

The cost of living index is based on a national average of 100.If the region shows a cost of living index that is lower than 100, it means it is living below national standard, and the reverse shows it is living above national standards. Canyon's living standard is 97, which shows that it

This means that the forward sweep design is less apt to suffer from wing tip stalls as the rearward designs are. It also means that the forward sweep aids in low speed stability and handling characteristics (CFC, 2011). Notable aircraft with this design include the Grumman X-29 experimental fighter and the Let-L13 glider (Hallion, 2011). Technological Impact Swept wing design changed the course of World War Two and all subsequent wars
