¶ … Transportation Congestion: Transportation systems have become increasingly congested across the globe, which has contributed to the need for growth of transportation infrastructure. Actually, transportation congestion has continued to be a major concern and challenge for big cities in the contemporary first moving world. This challenge is attributed to various factors including the ever-growing increase in services of automobiles and busy work schedules. As this problem continues across major engines, the effect of the challenge continues to spread across users of automobiles. Some of the major effects of transportation congestion include lost opportunities to do other things and contribute to more economic growth. While transportation congestion continues to influence people's choices on where they live and work, it's considered as the single largest threat to economic growth and lifestyle. Therefore, it has become increasingly for firms and governments to adopt appropriate strategies that could help in eradicating this problem. Many transportation experts think that governments and firms should use a multi-faceted approach to address the congestion problem and enhance mobility.

Causes and Effects of Transportation Congestion:

As previously mentioned, the problem of transport congestion is mainly caused by increase in the services of automobiles. In addition, this problem is brought by poor policy choices and failure to distinguish between effective and ineffective solutions. Poor policies and this failure causes transportation congestion regardless of whether it takes the form of stalled traffic, cargo stuck at seaports, or airplanes over crowded airports ("National Strategy...

From a traffic perspective, transportation congestion is also a by-product of the busy work schedules in major cities. The other factor contributing to the problem is mismanagement in the transportation industry.
The effects of this problem extend beyond the individual level to affect firms, the government, and economic growth. Individuals are faced with lost opportunity to carry out other activities because of being forced to wait for long hours in their automobiles ("Congestion Reduction Strategies," 2012). Moreover, this challenge influences people's choices on where to live and work, which in turn limits the range of practical choices to households and workers. For companies, the problem affects the transportation of goods from one location to another in a timely and cost-effective manner. The business community is forced to adjust its operating practices in order to compensate for time. For governments, the problem slows down economic prosperity and growth throughout the country.

Strategies for Firms to Overcome Transportation Congestion Challenges:

According to many transportation experts, a multi-faceted approach is the most effective way in dealing with challenges associated with transportation congestion ("Reducing Congestion," 2003).
