U.S. domestic policy overview and frameworks

Last reviewed: August 4, 2008 ~5 min read

¶ … U.S. domestic policy is, and some of its goals. U.S. domestic policy is the umbrella that attempts to organize and control domestic policies inside our country that relate directly to the American people. These can be as varied as government policies on HIV / AIDS to managing disasters like Hurricane Katrina. Domestic policies affect just about everyone in some way or another, and they monitor a huge variety of complex issues and policies that create the overall fabric of life in this country.

domestic policy has so many goals it is difficult to pin them down to just a few. Some of the most important right now include the economy and the energy crisis, although the Domestic Policy Council, the group that advises the president on domestic policy, does not deal with economic issues ("Domestic Policy Council"). Domestic policy also covers things like medical research (like stem cell research), abortion, the schools, and just about anything that faces the American people today. The environment, transportation, labor policies, and veteran's affairs are just some of the areas the Domestic Policy Council attempts to coordinate, so it is easy to see how diverse the domestic policy really is.

The policies goals are to make sure that each area of the policy is coordinated throughout the country, and that the policies are managed and implemented effectively. In addition, the goals of the policy are to oversee areas of importance to all Americans, and areas that affect the lives of Americans, like labor, education, health, and welfare. The idea of a domestic policy is good, and these areas need to be coordinated to be effective throughout the country.

Frankly, the domestic policy issues are so broad, and so far-reaching, it is hard to see how anything this large and convoluted can be effective for everyone. In addition, there are many areas of the domestic policy that seem overwhelmed, or at least not gaining enough attention from the Congress and the people. Transportation is one area of the domestic policy, and immediately, everyone thinks "gas prices" and what can be done about them. However, there are many other areas of transportation that need addressing, such as the aging infrastructure of the nation's roads and highways. The bridge collapse in Minneapolis is just one example of how dangerous this can be, and yet it seems to be being largely ignored by the public and legislators, which will make the issue increasingly dangerous. Thus, there are many areas of the domestic policy that do not seem to be meeting its goals, which are to provide safety, welfare, and health for the American people.
