USA - the World's Police Officer

This paper is an argumentative one, which focuses on the role of the United States of America as a global police officer whereby it sets out its own norms, terms and conditions for over 200 countries. It is in MLA format.

USA - The World's Police Officer pivotal role of the U.S. government is in carrying out means and ways through which it can prosper relations with other countries of the world. Unfortunately, for those very countries, USA is acting as a police officer, whereby it is looking after their day-to-day affairs without the formers' even request to do so. USA is the World's Police Officer, there is no shadow of a doubt about this notion. America does have a large influence over the running of the planet, as it is the global sergeant. Many people the world over would agree to this without any debates. It interferes where it is not needed and does not pay heed to those matters where its approval is of quintessential significance. [Author Unknown]

Different authors, writers and researchers and not to forget the critics and others are of the opinion that America should devise a foreign policy which must comply solely within its boundaries and to its people only. It must not deviate from this notion and thus forbid itself from gauging on wars without the recommendation of the whole world. Whatever happened in Iraq is clear to all. The cases in point of Haiti, Somalia, Japan, Bosnia and so on and so forth are crystal clear examples that America must not cross the international boundaries and limit itself to its own regions and its own populace.

America is indeed quite unique in time and space. Some people may just be able to disobey it but they cannot force or conquer it. This is a known fact all over the world. However amongst all these people, there is a common form of hatred which only can be linked to a nuclear attack on USA which would have its own types of devastation, and that too aplenty. Hubert Vedrine who is the French foreign minister, once made a point in all its glory, although somewhat avariciously that one should take into consideration that 'The United States of America today predominates on the economic, monetary [and] technological level, and in the cultural area... In terms of power and influence, it is not comparable to anything known in modern history.' It must be true to state that it indeed is a hyper-puissance, a 'hyper-power' for short. [Dobbins, McGinn, others]

The problem with United States of America is that it usually bothers and harasses other countries but it does not conquer them. It attempts at calling the shots and more than once bends the rules for them, but it does not go to war for the sake of land or honor. The last time one can remember the U.S. actually conquering some country was in the Philippines and Cuba a hundred years ago. This says much about the change from a traditional behavior to one of a great power state. When the U.S.A. battered and bruised Afghanistan and then Iraq, it was not precisely assaulting an untainted country, say like Vatican City or for that matter Belgium. [Joffe]
