While governments and authorities try to advise effectively, and take all possible measures to prevent and avoid human casualties and loss of property, they also lay emphasis on the process of recovery after a natural disaster. The recovery process is important to prevent human loss and disease and to again set up their lives.

In this aspect, the National Disaster Recovery Framework provides a flexible structure which helps in the formation of strategies and enables disaster recovery managers to know what they need to do exactly in a collaborative manner. The aim of such disaster recovery efforts is to the finding out of the ways and means that are best to restore, redevelop the health and the social, economic and natural fabric of the community affected by the disaster ("National Disaster Recovery Framework k," 2016).

In this paper, we prepare a PSA for recovery stage of the local residents who were affected by a hurricane in Jacksonville, Florida.

The proposed PSA for Food Safety after a hurricane:

Keeping Food Fresh

In order to keep food fresh in case of power cut, the refrigerator and freezer doors should be kept closed as much as possible

Spoiled food should be thrown out

Food that is in an open can should be thrown out

If there is a strange smell, color, or texture to the food it should be thrown out

All canned food needs to be cleaned out and the labels are removed, they need to be dipped in cans with a mix of 5 gallons of water and 1 cup of household bleach.

Water Safety after a Hurricane

Find out whether tap water is fit to be consumed.

In case they are not then water should be brought to a rolling boil for 1 minute

Household bleach can be used by using 1/8 teaspoon of new, unscented liquid bleach to a container of water of 1-gallon capacity and allow the water to sit for 30 minutes before drinking

Water purifier tablets can also be used to disinfect water ("Make Sure Your Food and Water Are Safe to Use -- Hurricanes," 2016)

PSA to be Safe and Recover after a Hurricane

The danger to human safety does not end even after the end of a hurricane. To keep yourself and family safe after a hurricane:

If an electrical device is wet it should never be used. The power at the main breaker should be turned off if it is plugged in and wait for a professional to handle it.

Flashlights instead of candles should be used if there is a power outage.

One should be very careful near damaged buildings

It should be borne in mind that buildings can be made unsafe and damage buildings. One should ensure that a building is safe before entering into a building that is damaged by a hurricane.

In case one hears shifting or unusual noises in a house or a building, the building should be left immediately as strange noises can mean that the building is about to fall ("Make Sure Your Food and Water Are Safe to Use -- Hurricanes," 2016).

Carbon Monoxide poisoning should be prevented

Carbon monoxide is formed from burning of gas or coal. This can generate from generators, pressure washers, charcoal grills, and even camp stoves. Carbon monoxide cannot be smelled but can be very dangerous if it is allowed to build up inside a house or a building.

In order to keep people safe from carbon monoxide:

Places inside a home like the basement or the garage should never be used to burn gas or coal. If it is to be burnt then it should be done outside the home and at least 20 feet from any window, door, or vent.
