This is adding to their case loads and overwhelming the resources of many facilities. In the future, this can create conflict with veterans not receiving the quality of care they deserve. Cultural awareness is understanding, the needs of various demographics of patients and what is important to them. This is challenging, with the VA following standard practices when interacting with them. Over the course of time, this will create animosity with some feeling alienated. ("VA Mental Health," 2011)
Ethnocentricity is the take or leave it attitude from staff members. This makes patients feel as if they are just another number. These frustrations will results in conflicts between personnel and patients. Cultural imposition is when the client feels as if the VA has no understanding or
