Moreover, "Command sergeant majors have the task of upholding military customs and traditions," which means that I would have the honor of receiving due respect for the U.S. Army traditions and process that make my personal and professional goals a reality. Without the existence of the Army, and the hierarchial process that I can work upward to gain responsibility, financial security, and greater self-confidence, I do not think that I would have the passion and determination in life that I do today. My Professional Goals: Gaps and Solutions

My envisioned professional life in five years has been a source of great excitement, hard-work, and determination. While I have worked extensively to become fit for the Command Sargent Major position, I know that I have many years and hard work ahead of me before I have the skills and experiences necessary for being considered. As briefly discussed in my vision statement attached, I will need to have the positions of Platoon Sergeant and then First Sargeant on my U.S. Army resume in order to have the required seniority, skills, knowledge, and experience for the Command Sargent Major position. The fact that I do not have these job experiences yet is the biggest gap in my resume for attaining the Command Sargent Major with the U.S. Army position.

Since I will be
"looking after the welfare of the unit's soldiers at all times," I look forward to having more leadership and interpersonal roles in my future U.S. Army positions to build that part of my resume (Guerra 2010). Furthermore, since U.S. Army Command Sargent Majors are "expected to be subject matter experts when it comes to all established policies and procedures," I will have to work very hard to become familiar and "expert" on these areas by the time I apply for this position (Guerra 2010).

In conclusion, the biggest gap in my professional experience that is stopping me from reaching my professional goal of becoming a Command Sargent Major is leadership and authority experience. I will gain this experience through working the prior two Army positions listed previously. Therefore, I am confident that I am on a direct path to my vision statement of professional, and personal, happiness.
