¶ … vision within a changing business organization. I've selected two articles relating to business to examine that specifically highlight the benefits and techniques of incorporating vision into a strategic business plan.
The first article I've chosen to examine deals with the recent vision laid out by the new CEO of Hewlett-Packard industries, Leo Apotheker. Ogg (2011) explained that upon Mr. Apotheker's arrival as head of the company his stated vision of "providing seamless, secure, context aware experiences for a connected world, " has provided a direction for the company that was absent previously. Mr. Apotheker demonstrated the usefulness of the vision by incorporating introducing new hardware components as a guiding factor for the future. The relative size of the gigantic Hewlett-Packard Corp. requires a vision that encompasses all the aspects of this complex organization.
Many in the investment world are excited about the direction Hewlett-Packard is heading in with Mr. Apotheker in charge. Introduction of new software and hardware components into new and competitive markets have created confidence and optimism in the business world represented by recent stock prices and positive reviews such as Ogg's. The opinions stated in this article support the use of vision within a strategic business plan and managers should pay close attention to these techniques to realize their potential.
Article 2
The second article I examined, analyzed the vision and direction of Sam Martin, CEO of A&P grocery stores. Similar to Hewlett-Packard, A&P had been under great stress due to failures of the previous management groups when Martin stepped in to create growth within the company once again. Bradt (2011) documented how Martin made consensus with the different factions and problems associated with a bankrupted company. Martin's vision included rebuilding and restoring a strong leadership group to head the company's ship in the right direction upward. Specifically, Bradt's examination highlighted Martin's emphasis on innovative spirit and developing a core of employees with strong values who focus on customer relations and getting things done right.
Martin's vision is positively accepted in this article because of the inspiring way Mr. Martin seems to have turned around this company. He has attracted dynamic talent to fill some of the leadership void left behind previously to help change the attitudes and morale of those who had to endure the bankruptcy proceedings. Bradt takes a very positive attitude towards Mr. Martin and his leadership style as his support and tone suggests throughout his analysis.
