Multiple Intelligences Inventory: Reflection
Prior to taking the Multiple Intelligences Inventory, I was (to be honest) also analyzing the inventory and tried to determine what kind of intelligence is actually reflected based on the statements per section. However, I realized that to do this would compromise the results of the Inventory itself, since I am supposed to be taking the test rather than analyzing it. After completing the inventory, the results showed the following scores per section/intelligence category:
Naturalist
Musical
Section III- Logical
Existential
Section V -- Interpersonal
Section VI -- Kinesthetic
Section VII -- Verbal
Section VIII -- Intrapersonal
Section IX -- Visual
The results showed that my strength lies in my intrapersonal intelligence, which, according to the theory's proponent Howard Gardner, is the "ability to understand and to have an effective working model of oneself… awareness of one's own desires, fears, and abilities, and also using this information to make sound life decisions" (Visser, 2006:490). Following this core intelligence are three "secondary" intelligences, since they scored second in my hierarchy of intelligences: existential, kinesthetic, and verbal. A far third showed that I have indications of having a naturalist intelligence. Meanwhile, I scored lowest on musical, logical, interpersonal, and visual intelligences.
The result of my MI inventory surprised me in that I have always believed that I would score highly on visual, logical and interpersonal intelligences, considering myself competent in those areas. According to the inventory, I am apparently more 'in touch' with my inner self and I have high intelligence on this than my ability to relate to people well, which is a characteristic of an interpersonally intelligent individual. Similarly, I was also surprised that I scored highly on existential intelligence, since, like my score in intrapersonal intelligence, I do not consider myself an individual who actually thinks and reflects about life deeply, more so myself. But I somewhat agree to this as potentially a current reflection of my disposition in life at the moment, since I am currently at the stage of my life where I am thinking about the accomplishment of my life goals and ultimately, what do I really want to do in life -- what would ultimately make me happy as an individual.
