¶ … school districts have been facing a number of challenges. Part of the reason for this, is because budgetary constraints have been placed on the total amounts of spending. This is has caused administrators to seek out creative ways in being able to deal with these challenges. While at the same time, they are expected to maintain high levels of academic achievement despite the fact that there are fewer resources. As a result, many public school officials are placed in the difficult position of determining what programs should be cut.
For those individuals who are more creative, this means that unorthodox methods must be utilized in providing the best education with the limited financial sources that are available. To achieve this objectives there are a number of different tools that can be used to address various shortfalls to include: the utilization of grants and establishing other forms of private funding. As far as grants are concerned, this is an effective strategy for providing additional funding to the district. The way that this works is the federal government or the state will offer some kind of funding for specific aspects of education. This is provided that the school district meets certain standards. Once this takes place, is when the school will be able to receive additional sources of financing.
For example, if a school district was to apply for various project grants, they could address some of the issues that they are facing. Where, this kind of funding is tied to specific projects in the field of education. This means that certain areas which are often the subject of severe budget cuts (i.e. art and music) could be able to continue to receive additional financing beyond what is currently being utilized. This is important, because if this approach can embraced it will ensure that the school system receives the money that it is looking for. ("Arts Education," 2011)
Other forms of private funding are when you are seeking out the assistance of nonprofit organizations (such as: the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation). What happens is many of these entities will often provide additional financing for various long-term projects that a school district needs. As they can help to offer funding in areas where, we may be seeing tremendous amounts of pressure (due to the lack of available resources). These types of organizations can be used to address some of the medium to long-term issues affecting the school.
For example, suppose that the school district is having trouble finding the money to purchase additional computers. This is because of the various financial challenges over the last few years, with most schools having limits on what they can purchase. A foundation is useful, because they can provide assistance to upgrade the schools computer system. Then, they can offer additional assistance to ensure that we are able to keep up with the changes in technology. This is important, because it is showing how this basic approach could provide funding for additional tools to improve the overall quality of education. Once this occurs, it means that the school district can be able to deal with the various financial challenges they are facing. ("Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation," 2011)
