Wei employed a sarcastic attitude by making his essay appear to complete Deng Xiaoping's article "Four Modernizations." He indirectly made fun of the Chinese leader by denouncing his failure to address China's problems. When considering present-day conditions in China, it appears that Deng Xiaoping's proposals were especially successful while democracy is far from being a concept that the Chinese state will express interest in. The fact that living conditions in China are critical should influence many individuals in behaving similar to Wei. However, when considering the activist's determination and his experiences, it is only safe to assume that it would be absurd for someone in China to behave similar to him, especially now when the country is rapidly becoming the most powerful economy in the world.

Such people would immediately be sent to prison and no one would express interest in their well-being as long as their suffering would be masked by the country's overall economic success. Wei himself appeared to be aware of the futility of his act at the time when his essay was issued. Even with this, he considered that the long-term effects of his involvement in the Chinese democratic movement would be essential and that people would gradually come to acknowledge that it is essential for them to get actively engaged in changing conditions in their country.
All things considered, contemporary China expresses hostile attitudes in regard to anyone who appreciates democracy and it has the power to imprison any individual brave enough to try to influence Chinese people to express interest in the political ideology.
