¶ … wellness paradigm I created that has capabilities, process, motivation, and rewards within a pie chart, shows how the human spirit can rise from its low point of depression and unhealthiness to joy and good health. There are several stages in order to get from that miserable point A to the satisfied and optimistic point B. But first, it is important to examine what the word wellness means. Organizations and people use the word "wellness" within a disease framework. This means using promotion of wellness in order to prevent or reduce health risks and disease. However, as time have changed, wellness began to take a different form. Wellness currently takes on the shape of inspiring people to be well instead of simply following protocols to reduce or prevent disease.
The three key wellness concepts are the notion that wellness should go beyond basic prevention, in order to achieve wellness, one must achieve a balanced life, and the wellness is a continual process. The human spirit is a hard thing to break. People go through many adversities and they survive. However, when it comes to wellness, it is not just about surviving. Rather, it is about thriving. Therefore, I specifically chose the four aforementioned words, because I feel it would best motivate a client to do well by identifying a realistic and practical process of understanding.
People do not simply live a good life by imagining or wishing it. There are many steps involved to keep balanced and stay healthy. The first thing I believe that should be the initial step is capabilities or skills. When people find something they are good at, whether it be a sport or some other hobby, it gives them something they could work on and be proud of. So many people in life lack basic satisfaction and feel they cannot offer anything to the world. That is not the case. Everyone has a talent or skill that can not only give them satisfaction, but motivate them to do more.
This goes also into the next step, process. Identifying the right process is crucial to take a skill or talent and make it something worthwhile and even profitable. Understanding the steps, it takes to improve one's talents or skills and then applying what one has learned will lead into the next step, motivation. One of the things people lack in order to be healthy and happy is motivation. People do not feel motivated to exercise or eat right or be social. When someone sees their capabilities reach a new level and they see it positively impacting the world, that will motivate them to do things that can be fun, new learning experiences, or help them reach important wellness goals.
When people feel motivated, they do better, which leads to the final step. Rewards. Rewards are the final goal for the human spirit. To be able to reap what one has sowed and live a life that is comfortable, filled with people that they love, and an immense feeling of satisfaction. When people reach their goals and become successful at whatever they wished to accomplish, this brings their spirit up and allows them to thrive in a life that was painful and full of despair before.
