¶ … Forward My dream job is in health care management. I am pursuing this right now because I feel that it meets all of my criteria for a dream job. The first thing that I want a job for is security, and healthcare management offers me that. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, healthcare management pays well, and the growth rate is much faster than average. If there is rising demand, and the field is relatively specialized, that means I will have considerable freedom over my future with this job.

The median pay in 2012 was $88,580 per year, and the growth rate is 23% over the next decade, with an expected 73,300 new jobs (BLS, 2015). With that in mind, I feel that this is a career that provides a lot of security for me going forward. But the dream job is not just about security. I want to do something that I love. I want a job that I look forward to everyday.

Security is sort of a baseline thing that has to be there, but I also know that if I hate my work, my life will be worse off for that. Healthcare is an industry that has deep value to me. It is an industry that is about helping people, and that is what drew me to healthcare in the first place.

There are many places to make money, but doing it while helping people in their hour of need is something that makes me feel good, and I want to be a part of that. So I have a lot of intrinsic motivation with respect to health care, and want to participate in the industry in a way that allows me to meet my other needs as well. It is probably worth mentioning that money and security are only some of what I want.

I see my dream job as pursuing whatever I want, and there's really only one way that I can do that. If I have a career that allows me the flexibility to chart my life's course, that is the sort of job that I am looking for. I feel that if I have the financial flexibility, and the ability to live anywhere that I want, I will be able to carve a much better path for myself than by any other means.

You have to work in this life, so it is important that your job works for you, not the other way around. My dream job isn't the job that is my dreams, but the job that supports my dreams. Healthcare management is challenging, but it also gives me freedom, with the pay and demand from employers that I truly have bargaining power over my own fate. Besides, I like challenge. I like environments that are different each and every day. Those are the environments in which I thrive.

Because I like challenge and a changing environment, healthcare management fits that bill as well. The challenges are interesting -- sometimes they are about people, sometimes about finances and sometimes about operation. Having a number of different types of challenges is actually pretty powerful, and it motivates you and keeps you sharp. I find that I need that in a job, to be kept on my toes at all times, and I respond well to this.

The last aspect of the job that fits well with my personality is that there is such a human element to it. I do not always come into contact with patients, but I work with the same people every day, and that can be very motivational for me. Working with people allows you to foster good relationships, and to feel good about being.
