Business and finance understanding were a foundational part of my formative years, as my father worked for Merryl Lynch for 25 years. He shared with me the desire to understand and incorporate the wisdom of how the market works and how finance is a part of every day life. In doing so he not only made me wise to the sometimes complicated nature of business but he shared his love for the concepts with me and in sharing I developed my own love for business and finance.
The challenges of business and finance have become a part of the foundation that drives my decision and desire to achieve and succeed in both my own life and through the success of my abilities working with this foundational part of other's lives. I have worked hard in my life to achieve things which many people only dream of doing. After high school graduation I enlisted in the U.S. Navy and began training to become a member of the elite Navy Seals.
The day I arrived at seal training I knew that I was going to make it, I didn't care that attrition rate was 80%. My class began with 205 men after five weeks of continuous physical and mental torture it was down to 110. I survived all the way until three weeks before graduation when I tore my mcl and acl during a physical evalutation. Because of the severity of my injury I was released from the Navy.
At this point I could have fallen victim to my own self-pity but instead I rose to the occasion. No more than three weeks after my discharge I enrolled at PIMA community college where I have been excelling ever since. A currently work as a loan officer and am applying for a summer internship with Goldman Sachs NY in their Investment Banking dept and I am a member of a national organization for Hispanic business men and students, the Association of Latino Professional in Finance and Accounting.
The way in which business and finance focused colleges or departments focus attention on current developments, real life experience of experts and real work experience as well as the basics of finance has proven to be a natural extension of my interest in business. I believe one of the most outstanding examples of this incorporation of current trends and real life professionals within finance arena with the core concepts of business can be found within McDonough School Of Business and Georgetown.
Therefore my choice of a future school, to continue the development of my professional skill set has been wisely driven by my own as well as other's admiration of the standards and practices of the your institution. The core courses of my business degree have been the most enjoyable classes I have taken, anywhere and applying the knowledge of the text and lectures to everyday experience within my work environment moves the concepts full circle and gives me an even clearer picture of where I see myself in the future.
My major at PIMA is finance and accounting, and I have thrived within the academic environment of finance and accounting, which is why I want to continue my education with work experience in the premier financial district in the United States, as well as further academic pursuits. Imparting the understanding of the importance of business planning within every person's life is a calling for me and I feel that the opportunity to do so within a professional environment would be a natural step for me.
