Evangelism

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls…my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11: 28-29).

Description: Understanding the path that it takes to become an evangelist is important out in front of any decision to follow that path. It is clear that in the book of Matthew, he is quoting what Jesus said in His desire to teach others. Christ made a promise to those who would become believers, to learn from Him, and he wasn't reluctant at all about telling prospective believers that he would give them spiritual rest, if only they would take the necessary steps towards becoming future participants in Christianity.

In John 20:31 -- "But these [scriptures with messages] are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." This is a very powerful passage from the Apostle John, because for a young person seeking a career as an evangelist, believing is the first step to take before asking others -- calling upon non-believers and others lost without spirituality or meaning -- to follow Christ's challenge and legacy. No one can successfully share the gospel if they have not become fully immersed in its truth and reasoning.

Goal: The goal of this program is to educate and train Christians (with the emphasis on younger people) to take the Word of God through Jesus Christ into the world. The rigorous training that every participant is expected to complete will likely weed out those who are not able to keep up with the program's demands, which will be substantial. But for those who make it through the training program, their lives will be enriched

Program Schedule for the First Three Weeks -- Getting Started!

In the first section, called "The Power of God's Word through Jesus Christ's Teachings," students will learn the role of evangelism and how they will fit into that role once their education and training is completed. This session will be divided up in three parts, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each session will be two hours and there will be homework to complete, including independent research on Biblical passages that relate to the topic mentioned above.

The second week of the first section (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday), consisting of two hours each day, addresses "The Privilege of Prayer in Our Times." These hours are devoted to a deep reflection into how prayer brings God closer to the human heart and spirit. Students are asked to read God's Word every day in a private, quiet place, and take notes that will become part of each student's portfolio at the end of the training.

The third and last week of the first section reviews the great works that several notable evangelists have accomplished. On Monday, the life and times of Billy Graham will be discussed and in-class research will be required (each student has an iPad with online capabilities); on Wednesday the evangelistic efforts of Aimee Semple McPherson (she used the power of radio to give sermons that inspired listeners to embrace Christ's teachings); and on Friday evangelist Danny Yamashiro (who amazingly survived a 400-foot fall from Nuuanu Pali in Hawaii and went on to launch "Jesus Christ is Calling You Evangelistic Ministry, JCCY).
