Desire to Study and Develop

¶ … desire to study and develop a successful career as an economist stems from my curiosity about how market forces affect social and political realities. Having studied business, finance, and related subjects as well as political science, I found myself returning to the same core theme in my academic pursuits: money does make the world go around. The economy is more than just the market forces that color it, or the policies that define its boundaries. Knowing how economic forces can be harnessed to improve social justice, to eliminate income disparity, and to eliminate human rights abuses will empower future economists like me and help us become the harbingers of a new future built on ethical responsibility.

Combining my passion for social justice and my interest in market economics is my main focus. I intend to research primary sources of early economic and political theory during the first few years of my studies so that my foundation in the subject is firmly rooted in established scholarship and theory. From there I will research current economists, analyzing and critiquing their perspectives in light of historical truths and events that are related to economic forces. Finally, I will create a final project that fuses issues related to social justice and politics with economics. In the interim I hope to work as an intern or at least closely with one of my professors so that I develop relationships with mentors and cultivate networking opportunities for my future career.
