¶ … strong letter recommendation recommend a language professor seeking tenure promotion. In letter stress

It would be extremely difficult for me to fathom a better foreign language professor than Mrs. Groschupf (CHANGE THE NAME). Her presence, knowledge, enthusiasm, and interest in her students -- both individually and collectively -- made her French courses a pleasure to take, and one of my fondest memories of my graduate experience thus far. There are certain personalities which dominate a time period in one's life, which fuse a series of moments together and enrich one's life in the process. I unequivocally assert that Mrs. Groschupf is one such personality, and that her approach towards the subject matter -- genuine, personable, approachable -- has benefitted not only me but also most every other student who took her course last semester.

What I enjoyed most about Mrs. Groschupf's teaching methodology is the fact that she actually made learning the intricacies of both the French language and culture (two inextricable facets) enjoyable. She is able to contextualize her subject matter in a way that is relevant for contemporary students, and provide a number of eminent examples of what otherwise would have been minor points that made the details of the French language highly memorable. Her dedication to the subject was inestimable, perhaps because she does not perceive learning French as a job but a privilege -- an integral part of life that exists everywhere within food, word roots, history, and contemporary personalities. Her secret is to transmute classroom learning to a lifelong pursuit that spans a variety of disciplines, and which motivates her students to do the same.

Thus, Mrs. Groschupf's students experience considerably more than merely taking a class for a grade while enrolled in hercourse. Engaged students (such as myself) are treated to a newfound perspective of life in which French is the foundation for an awakening of previously dormant perceptions and scholastic sensations. A good deal of this effect is achieved by Mrs. Groschupf's tireless approach to aiding her students. She routinely made herself available for tutoring and general assistance both during and outside of office hours. It was astounding to see her take virtually subject, including philosophy, literature, and current events, and relate it to her lesson plan for the day, seamlessly incorporating such disparate ideas into a focused didactic lecture.

It is rare to find a professor at the graduate level who is able to combine pedagogy with a genuine interest in the subject and an affinity for understanding her students and their various learning capacities the way Mrs. Groschupf could. I could go on at length about her innovative colloquial midterms, the many afternoons she stayed well after lectures elucidating various concepts at the request of her students, or even her willingness to modify assessment measures to more accurately reflect the ability of her students. I truly consider myself highly fortunate to have been able to take her course and to become imbued with her zest for learning and studying which I now understand is part of the pursuit of life.
