Additionally, education occurs as a force that propels individuals to reach their potential and to become fully engaged in the dynamic trends of the modern world. As an engine of social mobility, education offers an avenue that individuals can utilize for the betterment of their lives, that of their families, and their communities (Hajiyev, 2015).
What is an education gap and how does it affect people and society as a whole
An education gap explains the observed and persistent disparity in educational measures based on the performance difference between students from different socioeconomic status, gender status, and ethnic backgrounds. Education gaps threaten to dilute the leveling effects of education. For example, students from affluent families tend to perform better compared to students from low-income families (Porte, 2015). The same applies to the disparity in performance between white students and black students.
How do standardized test bias, discriminative and label people
The origins of standardized tests point to the Eugenics movement that viewed certain races as inferior to others on biological and intellectual grounds. Students of color, especially those from low-income families gave suffered the explosion of high-stakes standardized testing (Plotnik & Kouyoumdjian, 2013). As a result, these tests have undermined equity and school equality. The high-stakes training environment has affected certain groups, especially people of color, students with special education needs, and low-income individuals.

The effect of power in education settings depicts the necessity of students to take action by participating in raising awareness about schools that lack sufficient educational resources. Power brings into light by the plight of the unheard challenges in educational settings. The distribution of power in the society comes in handy in the analysis of the societal status and class.

Power can actualize the implementation of laws and policies endeavored to address stereotypes and prejudices in the society. Using power, educational stakeholders can work out frameworks such as bringing in multiple assessments over standardized testing to facilitate the elimination of stereotypes and prejudices on certain groups in the society, for example, individuals of color.
