The point of this argument in the above paragraph is that the ability to enjoy medieval interpretive dance often requires preparation. The first sentence serves to intrigue the reader by describing the uniqueness of interpretive dance, that it hovers somewhere between an intellectual and non-intellectual pursuit. The first statement also contains a structure, which suggests that the point of the argument cannot be that the enjoyment of medieval interpretive dance has little to do with intellect. The first sentence uses the technique of subordination, using a less important dependent clause before a more-important independent clause. The part of the paragraph arguing that medieval dance needs prior experiences for understanding is the independent, and more important clause. Further, the second statement follows the first by developing the point made in the second clause of the first sentence. In this development, the reader is given a suggestion for how one can increase one's capacity for appreciation of medieval dance. Structured so, the argument is presented in a chronological fashion that issues a truism first in order to prove the main point of the argument, which comes second. As this second statement is also a call to action or mandate, it becomes clear that the goal of the paragraph is to make this argument.

2. The reasoning in the following argument is most similar to the reasoning in the example: "In class elections, Annabelle will definitely vote for Anastasia if Alexis does not run. Annabelle will not vote for both Anastasia and Alexander. Since, as it turns out, Alexis will not run, Alexander will not get Annabelle's vote." In both this example and the first the parameters are given for a specific event instead of a wide generalization. In the first, it is a tour schedule, and in the second it is class elections. Further, the conclusions that are drawn from these arguments have to do with these same scenarios. Thus, the first choice can be eliminated. The conclusion for this choice involves a sweeping generalization regarding farmers and plant resistant crops. In addition, both of the similar arguments begin with a description of how two situations cannot occur simultaneously within the specific event. In each argument, one of the situations is dependant upon another situation. Carly Simon's stopping in Columbus is dependant on her stopping in River Glen, and Annabelle's vote for Anastasia is dependant on Alexis's not running. In both situations, the dependant situation does not occur, causing the non-dependant situation to occur.
