Blanche lost Belle Reve due to the deaths of family members that wiped out the inheritance she had with her sister, Stella. With turmoil in her life from that and from the suicide of her husband and her subsequent affairs, Blanche was thrown out of her hometown and moved to New Orleans to stay with her sister and brother-in-law.
