Communication Memo - Protest of Health Insurance Fees
What is the purpose of your memo?
This memo presents the position of the Campus WHATEVER Club that single employees should not be charged the same insurance fees as married people paying for family coverage.
Describe your primary audience.
The primary audience is the president of the University.
Subject: Health Insurance Fees
We, the members of the Campus WHATEVER Club, are writing to protest your proposal to make all employees pay the same amount for university health insurance, regardless of whether or not they need single or family coverage.
Employees with families are more likely to incur greater medical expenses. This is because their coverage includes the medical needs of spouses and their dependent children.
In contrast, single employees only need coverage for themselves. It is therefore unfair to charge them the same amount as employees with family coverage. This serves to penalize single employees, making them shoulder the health costs of the dependents of other employees.
In the interest of fairness to all concerned, the Campus WHATEVER Club proposes a restructured university health insurance plan. Under this plan, all employees will pay a minimum amount of coverage. In addition, they will be charged extra premiums per dependent. We believe that such an insurance plan would address the medical insurance needs of all employees, without unduly penalizing staff members who do not have dependents.
A look forward to discussing this with you at the next staff meeting.
