Discussion Response #1
The effectiveness of any Army unit is partly affected by the size and capability of the existing workforce. Leaders in Army units face the need to promote the growth and development of the workforce in order to enhance their capabilities and overall effectiveness of the respective unit. As shown in your discussion, workforce capabilities in Army units are sometimes affected by the size of the workforce. An inadequate number of personnel contributes to gaps between the existing workforce and the human capital needs of the unit/organization. These gaps can be addressed through hiring an adequate number of personnel as well as employing various strategies toward employee engagement, training/retraining, and organizational adaptability. Your discussion correctly demonstrates that identification of gaps in the workforce and human capital needs should be based on the structure of the Army force structure and unit.
Personnel structure and composition differs between MTOE and TDA units because of differences in their geographical missions and specific tasks. Your Army unit or organization finds it easy to identify gaps between workforce on hand and human capital needs of the organization because of its small structure. Being a very small unit, it is easy to carry out an organizational manpower survey and meet any human capital requirements or needs. This Army unit could further benefit from the use of Personnel Management Authorization Document (PMAD), which usually provides personnel requirements and authorizations (U.S. Army War College, 2015). The strategies you currently employ in closing gaps in employee engagement, training/retraining, and organizational adaptability are relatively effective. However, the Army unit could improve these current strategies through adopting technological measures to enhance workforce readiness and organizational adaptability. Technology has proven effective in enhancing organizational flexibility and resilience in light of the changing global landscape.
