Modalities and Affinities for Rhus Tox, Pulsatilla, Nux Vomica, and Ledum. This paper examines the modalities and the affinities of four alternative remedies; Rhus tox, Pulsatilla, Nux vomica, and Ledum. Modalities are circumstances under which general or particular symptoms will change become better or worse. Ameliorates are improvement and aggravates make the symptoms worse (Grieve, 1971). Affinities refer to the to the areas of the body that the remedies are aligned with.

Rhus tox Rhus tox, is used to treat a variety of conditions including arthritis, exam, measles, rheumatic fever, throats, sprains (Students notes, 2017). The modalities concern movement and temperature. Ameliorates for pulsatilla include motion, sweating which it may be argued can be aligned with motion, and being outdoors (Fluckiger and Hanbury, 2014). Aggravates are stated as the beginning of motion which refers to the point when a patient goes from the state of stillness to movement, likewise physical exertion (Students notes, 2017).

Cold and dampness and changes of weather are also deemed to have a negative impact aggravating symptoms, along with environmental conditions, such as the period preceding and storm, and the hours before midnight (Students notes, 2017). Affintities include glands, mucus membranes, the nervous system, skin, as well as muscular and connective tissue. Pulsatilla Pulsatilla nigricans is more commonly known as windflower, a meadow anemone, or the tears of Venus, and comes from the ranunculaceae family.

The plant is used to treat allergic reactions including hay fever, asthma, yeast infections, diarrhea, suppressed menstruation, tearfulness, and melancholy (Students notes, 2017). The ameliorates include cold food and drink (Students notes, 2017). Notability, cold drink may aid with symptom reduction even if the patient is not feeling thirst (Students notes, 2017). In addition, cold being applied, motion, and open air are ameliorates. Aggravates include fatty food, the evening hours, and warm rooms (Students notes, 2017).

Affinities include the mind, female organs, which one would assume means female reproductive organs, stomach, urinary organs, veins, mucous membranes, tongue, and bowels (Fluckiger and Hanbury, 2014). Nux vomica Nux vomica is also known as the poison nut, and part of the loganiaceae family. Nux vomica is suitable to be used as a morning after remedy to aid with a hangover. It is also for headaches, lack of sleep, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting (Students notes, 2017).

The modalities weather, temperature, and motion related conditions, ameliorates include damp and wet weather, lying down, and evening hours. Aggravates are dry weather with cold drafts and the presence of mental exertion (Grieve, 1971). Affinities include the mind, respiration, the liver, digestion, intestines and the rectum. Ledum Ledum palustre is more commonly known as wild rosemary. It is used for treatment with puncture wounds, including bites, stings, and wounds from nails, needles, etc., as well as arthritic pain, black eyes, bruising, and gout (Students notes, 2017).
