Nurse Perspective The profession of nursing offers many different things to many different people. For me, caring and helping people heal has always interested me and has made me feel like I am on the right path I life. The purpose of this essay is to explain my perspectives on nursing and why I feel that this profession is not only of great importance to me and my family, but also positively affecting my community and environment as well. This essay will first show the need for nurses in today's society and how well trained nurses can make a significant impact in the overall quality of life for everyone involved. Also this essay will address Jane Watson's theory of caring as a main academic influence on my nursing approach.

Background

I was born in a relatively poor part of the world in Jamaica where many of the things that are taken for granted are difficult to find. My large family, with many brothers and sisters provided me with a unique background and demonstrated to me at an early age the necessity of cooperation and sharing. This attitude was instilled to me by my parents who taught us to be respectful to others and help those who need and ask for assistance.

Now, many years later, I realize that family is still very important to me and with my own family and children I want to do the very best for them as mine did for me. This caring attitude overflows into my career aspirations and how I have become involved in the nursing profession. I derive great pleasure out of helping those who need help the most.

There is a great demand and need for nurses in today's society as...

Courchane (2011) suggested that a significant increase in nurses is needed to keep America running. She wrote "The need for more nurses in the coming years stems mainly from an aging baby boomer population as well as a generation of aging nurses who will retire. Although the nursing shortage of the early 21st century has been helped temporarily by the economy, many are predicting a shortage in the next several years." This need has shown me that there is a way I can use my talents and will towards a career.
Nursing Influences

Regardless of the nurse shortage, I still would pursue this career due to my nature to care. In researching this profession, Jean Watson's Theory of Care became something which interested me very much and inspired me to further dedicate myself to this profession. Watson's theory described the importance of nursing and their ability to care and inspire patients in order to get the best results. Watson included some interesting techniques in her theory that are spiritual and emotional in nature. Watson's conceptualized nursing as a total mind, body and spiritual experience that uses scientific problem solving with reasonable and caring methods that brings out the best in the nurse and the patient (Current Nursing, 2013).

Personal Benefits of a Nursing Career

Ultimately my perspective on nursing relies on my past and current experiences within the field. I have found that this profession can not only emotionally and spiritually fulfill me, but the benefits of the career itself are…

Nurse-Patient Relations The main focus of this essay is going to concern the nurse-patient relationship idea, and why it is important. This was chosen because the researcher desired to achieve a better accepting of how a helpful nurse-patient relationship can be advanced and even from different theorists who have discovered this idea. In this essay, the researcher sets out to demonstrate what they have learnt regarding the nurse-patient relation concept and

As such, "nursing is caring for people and their environment in ordered to maintain well-being in individual, family, and/or community using therapeutic techniques" (Long, 2012). Caring is at the very center of the nursing paradigm, and helps set a foundation for the other elements. Next comes the concept of health. This "concerns nurses as medical professionals (rather than mere adjuncts to doctors)" (Johnson, 2013). Nurses care because they want

Nursing Ethics In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, medical technology has advanced enough to provide certain measures to keep the body "alive," but not necessarily the brain or the cognitive functions that make up quality of life (O'Keefe-McCarthy, 2009). Despite the fact that death is a cyclical part of life, humans still have a very difficult time dealing with issues surrounding terminal illness: hospice, do not resuscitate, costs for

The study measures public opinion concerning two scenarios: one in which the kidney donor is given a fixed financial compensation; and one in which the donor is provided with health insurance coverage for life. According to the findings of the study, "although almost half of the respondents (46%) were reluctant towards introducing a system with fixed compensation to increase the number of living kidney donors, still 25% of

It is thus possible for the institution to retain nurses by strengthening the interpersonal leadership and management skills that lead to empowerment within the healthcare environment. This is especially supported by studies that found that despite the fact that a nurses' pay is important, it is not as critical in enhancing retention as a positive work place or an empowered environment that promotes teamwork and encourages ongoing learning, trust,
