All forms of media are extremely popular and as a result the messages that are presented about people from various cultures also become popular, even if the messages are untrue or based on stereotypes. The benefit of understanding the power of television on the minds of young people, is that parents have the ability to monitor how much television that their children watch. In addition, when questionable images do appear parents can discuss these images with children. By monitoring the images that children see on television, parents have the ability to shape the opinions of children concerning multiculturalism. The article seems to also articulate the idea that the images seen on television can be used to reinforce positive attitudes in children concerning the culture that they belong to. Understanding this concept is important because it allows children, who are growing up in a multicultural society, to have an accurate understanding of the people around them. Ultimately this understanding will lead to a better future for society and for racial and cultural relations. Televisions and other forms of media are here to stay. With this understood it is imperative that the images reflected in the media are consistent and true to the real character of the people that live in out society. Failure to achieve this goal could be extremely detrimental to future generations.
