There are many differences between men and women though today they may not seem as great as they were two hundred, one hundred, or even fifty years ago. Even forty years ago, if a person were asked the question of what the differences between men and women were, one (either man or woman) would say that they don't have the same rights. Even though "rights" are something that both men and women have in this country, sexism still exists and therefore it puts a rift in equality between men and women.

For years men assumed superiority over women and they were able to sustain it through domination. However, today, men and women are fortunate in that they get to live amongst each other as equals. This benefits women and men. Though we all have the same rights as humans, that does not mean that we have been "designed" equally - or, better said, the same.

Men are usually stronger than women, possessing more upper body strength, more stamina, and have a higher threshold for pain. Men seem to be built for confrontation and women appear to bruise more easily, are less confrontation, and have less strength than men, in general.

Women are often considered to be more communicative than men. Women also seem to have the ability to focus on more than one thing at a time while men are problem solvers; they like to focus on one problem and find a solution. Girls frequently are able to be in a group and appear to be following several different conversations at once. Boys, on the other hand, would prefer to participate in games where they can actively express themselves -- for instance, in sports.

Women and men also seem to approach problems in different ways -- although they may have the same goal in mind. The approaches and processes to solving problems is very different -- even when they want the same exact outcome.

Women may want to explore problems more through verbal communication than men. By discussing a problem, women find that they are able to explore solutions, strengthen relationships and be more involved with the person whom they are talking with. Women may feel more connected or feel more alone depending on how they are dealing with a situation.

Men are the opposite. A lot of men see dealing with problems as a way of showing how smart they are. They want to solve the problem and move on to the next problem -- no hassles. Men are more able to put their own feelings aside and take control of the situation by assuming authority in a problem solving process. Men seem to be distracted by the fact that they want to solve a problem and thus the quality of the way in which they solve the problem oftentimes is lacking.
