There are probably dozens or even hundreds of students in a similar position to myself, but nevertheless I feel that I must tender my application for this scholarship. I believe that I understand as well as anybody the sense of duty that comes with such an award, and can live up to the lofty expectations that the school has of me. My academic track record and strong personal character make me an excellent candidate for this award, as I shall demonstrate.

University education of the highest caliber is the next logical step in my life. Through hard work and perseverance I have complete high school, showing improvement at every step along the way. I excelled in mathematics and envision taking my education to higher levels in either finance or economics, in order to take advantage of this strength of mine. These fields interest me not only because they are challenging and involve substantial mathematics components, but because they cut the heart of how the world works. It is easy to see, every time I read a newspaper or turn on the television, how the financial and economic worlds affect everyday life, and how in turn I can have an impact of people's lives through my own contributions in the field.

I have demonstrated consistent improvement throughout my high school years. My grades improved steadily, to the point where I finished second in my class. I am driven from within, and thrive on new challenges. This can be seen not only in my academic record, but in my strong performance in the TOEFL exam, where I scored 110/120. On the basis of these achievements, I firmly believe that I am capable to excelling in the university environment, bringing insight and a unique perspective to my classes.

The pursuit of higher education has been a lifelong goal of mine. The hard work that I have put into building a solid academic resume reflects my character and my dedication to self-improvement. It is imperative, however, that am able to receive some assistance in order to continue pursuit of my educational goals. I am simply not able to fund the pursuit of my dreams on my own at this point. Thus, I feel that a scholarship is not simply something that I would like to have, it is something that I need to have.

I see my university education as a stepping stone to a brilliant career. My interest in business and economics will take me to interesting professions. As I make my contribution to the betterment of the world, I will be an outstanding corporate citizen and a stellar representative of my alma mater. The debt of gratitude that I will owe as a result of your support today will be repaid tenfold as I represent the school with the same strong character and dedication that I have shown in my life thus far.
