Some of the counties of this area are Clark, Iron, Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida, Portage, Price, Taylor, Vilas, and Wood counties. The demographics of North Central Wisconsin compared to the United States shows that this area of Wisconsin is rapidly growing with baby boomers.

"In the last 100 years, the period from 1900 to 2000, this area of the state has increased its population 129%, growing from 199,000 to 448,000 people. The state of Wisconsin has grown at the rate of 159%. The United States has grown from 179,323,175 in 1960 to 284,796,887 in 2001. North Central Wisconsin has grown faster than the state beginning in 1960 with a rate of 39%, while the state grew at 35.7% increase.
The problem is that the state is aging rapidly. In 1990, the average age of the state was 36.2 with the state's average age at 35.5. In 2000, the North Central area had increased their age to 37.8. The state's average age was 36.8. It is predicted that in 2020 the average age of a person will be 41.5 with the average age in the state of Wisconsin being 39.9 according to the U.S. Bureau of Census and WI Department of Administration.
