Peculiar Ethics of Public Leadership: Pragmatism as a Framework for Action in Public Service

The Commercial helicopter industry is clearly a growth industry. The numbers and kinds of uses that have been found for the industry and all its players are vast and will likely continue to grow in both diversity and number over the next 50+ years. Currently the commercial helicopter industry provides services for thousands of private, corporate and often civil organizations and individuals ranging in diversity of task from land and wildlife surveys to pleasure viewing. The industry answers the call for disaster relief, firefighting and many other important public tasks as well, often contracted through private industry helicopter companies for those who do not wish to or do not have the means to support independent fleets of their own. Yet, increasingly there is a shortage of qualified pilots to fly the existing helicopters both nationally and internationally.

This essay is a reflective piece that explains the author's experience observing at a high school located in Clay County West Virginia. The purpose of the essay is to explore the cultural differences and similarities that are seen elsewhere. A questionnaire was introduced to help gather data about the experience.

People cannot freely interact without understanding each other's culture. Wherever misunderstanding arises, negotiation is a critical factor in conflict resolution. In this study, I have shown in detail how attending this class has sharpened my skills related to this concept. I have learnt how to deal with my ego and appreciate the other people’s point of view based on their cultural diversity. In addition, I am more accommodative rather than competing- a factor that has played a great role in the bulging of my friends circles.
