Biological determinism or essentialism holds that there is a natural and genetic difference between men and women and from a patriarchal viewpoint finds that women are intellectually and physically inferior and should be relegated to child rearing and domestic duties. Liberal feminism, often called middle class feminism calls for equal economic, voting and citizenship rights within the present system, unlike radical or socialist feminism that demand the overthrow of capitalism, imperialism, and patriarchy, perhaps even in a revolution. Multiracial feminists also wish to build a global feminist movement that crosses the lines of color, language, religion and nationality, instead of simply being known as a white, middle class Western movement that benefits only privileged or upwardly mobile women.

Representation of characters and role models in different media outlets is based on perceptions and preconceived notions held by the producer, co-producers, and audiences at large. Only those representations are drawn that largely resonate with current meanings given to people, characters, places, and objects.The paper presents two theoretical approaches to study media and its impact at large. Theory of social constructivism provides framework to assess the meanings given to gender roles, objects, and places. Social construction of ideals, role models, and images keep changing as their meanings constantly transform from one generation to another and from one society to another. Theory of agenda setting is another framework that explains media and its influence. Though widely criticized as well, agenda setting theory has been used by researchers to highlight media role in political as well as entertainment, news, and infotainment segments. Media has played vital role in promoting culture as well as consumerism across U.K and rest of the world.

The Weather Underground is a 2002 documentary film based on the American radical organization of the 1960s called "The Weathermen." In 1969 a group of leftist college students were so opposed to the Vietnam War and the lack of cohesive student policies that they decided to radicalize and overthrow the U.S. government. The film explores the way the organizers of the movement were so very passionate about the issue that it consumed their lives. The documentary also looks at "The Weathermen" in the cultural and social context of the Black Panther Movement and the Students for a Democratic Society.

Shirley Chisholm was one of the most influential black women of the 1960's through the 1990's. She went from a very poor background to become the first black woman to win a seat in Congress. She was also the first African American to run for president. Although she did not come close to winning the nomination, she set a precedent that black people, and women, can do anythig that they set their minds to. This paper compares and contrasts the two works "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "Forrest Gump." It analyzes them from the perspective of the pre-War and post-War construction of Southern femininity.
