Here I stand. Or lay. This will probably be my last entry. Judging from how pale my hand is, I'd say definitely my last entry. Unlike I have a little luck or some sort of miracle from above.

A brief overview of the film "Amistad" directed by Steven Spielberg. Issues covered are what led to mutiny, the legal ramifications, and what influenced the court cases in the film. Also analyzed is the film "Last of the Mohicans" by Michael Mann. Issues analyzed include the British-colonial relationship, the conditions of colonial support in the war, and if the British upheld their side of the deal.

Consideration of the 1968 Kerner Commission Report and the systemic issues of racial segregation and income inequality as it would erode the community relations of the police force and the perception of profiling and marshal law. Outcome is a view that use of concentrated patrolling must have both quantitative and qualitative goals that incorporate rigorous data analysis.

My topic this week will be on Shelter Service Utilization of Domestic Violence Victims. Shelters have proven to be useful for women who have been domestically abused and for their children in numerous capacities. Yet it has been found that only approximately one out of four women use them. The question then is why some women choose to use them and others not even though, by not using them, they will be harmed further. The ecological model (or systems theory) is used for understanding this conundrum. Systems theory posits that people operate within a system of interacting spheres that affect one another. These spheres operate on the individual, family, and societal level. These spheres also have their boundaries which impact how open or closed they are as well as influencing the mode of the individual's behavior.

Sexism is the unfair preference of one gender and its capabilities over the other gender. (Götz, 1999) Sexism is not a bias that just comes out of nowhere and is present in the world today. This tradition or problem in fact is present in the society's culture since thousands of years. (Götz, 1999) The Marxist view believed that sexism is basically a form of radical feminism. That is to say that the capitalistic structure our society is molded in today gives rise to sexism in the work place, society and even in politics. (Götz, 1999) The stereotypical roles that are present in almost every social practice today are very firm and will require radical changes for them to be reversed.
