In this paper, we are going to be examining the long term impact of outsourcing on IT operations. This will take place by focusing on the benefits and drawbacks of these practices. Once this takes place, is when we will show how this approach has both risks and rewards it is providing to firms.

The joint venture between Xerox and Fuji Photo Film to form Fuji Xerox was considered by many to be one of the most successful joint ventures between an American and Japanese company in history. The purpose of the strategic alliance was to overcome growing competition in the global marketplace. Fuji Xerox is only one portion of the Xerox Group, which is comprised of several larger divisions. Much of the competition that Fuji Xerox hoped to overcome was based in Japan. When Xerox began to see competitors such as Canon and Ricoh growing exponentially through exports, they realized that they had to make major changes in order to remain competitors of scale.

The potential benefits of the merger were roughly equal both sides of the two companies. First of all Chrysler had a significantly bigger presence in the North American market while Daimler-Benz had a much bigger presence in Europe. Therefore, both companies were eager for more market penetration in the others home-territory. However, the rationale extends far beyond the geographical market presence. At the time of the merger, both companies were profitable but were eager to expand in order to create a long term orientation and be more competitive with the larger automotive manufactures.

Serious setbacks were seen in the early 2000s when it adopted a new technology that was poised to enhance its productivity. The contrary happened but the management was able to counter its effects.
